Jonathan Sandling

London Campus Principal

As London Campus Principal, Jonathan’s primary job role is to ensure that every single student has an outstanding learning experience with us. This is achieved through working in partnership with students, staff and stakeholders to facilitate transformational learning opportunities and an effective campus operation.

Jonathan joined the University of Portsmouth as London Campus Principal in 2023, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, particularly from within the London education landscape.

Prior to joining the University, Jonathan worked for various public and private sector FE and HE institutions across London, the South East and Dubai. He is experienced in managing relationships with local authorities and key stakeholders and will ensure the University is suitably positioned within the local and regional area in a meaningful way that will enable us to add significant value to the communities we serve.

Jonathan’s first degree was a BSc in Sports Therapy at London Metropolitan University, and prior to working in education he worked for a number of years within professional sport settings. Following this, Jonathan completed an MSc in Science at The Open University, a PGCE at the University of Greenwich, along with various other professional and academic qualifications. Jonathan is currently in the final stages of a Doctorate in Education (EdD) at the University of Cambridge where he is researching the association between humour and creative thinking in students.
