Since joining UoP London in November 2025, Dr Fadime Sahin, Course Leader for MSc Accounting and Finance, has been writing regularly on the challenges facing UK universities, contributing eight pieces to sector outlets including the Times Higher Education, the Higher Education Policy Institute, University World News and Research Professionals. Her writing covers a range of interconnected pressures.
Within the academic workforce, Fadime has explored the risk of academia splitting into a two-tier system, and looked at whether Brexit has been as damaging to EU academic staff retention numbers as many had feared. In the student landscape, she has drawn on a decade of enrolment data to examine how subject choice continues to shape gender balance across institutions.
Fadime has examined how universities respond or struggle to respond to change, questioning whether pilot projects can end up slowing the very reforms they are supposed to test and arguing that institutions need to be better prepared for crises in an environment of compounding disruption.
On AI and research practice, she explored what it means for the skills students will need, and why the way researchers handle anonymisation may need to be rethought in light of how the technology processes data.
Together, these publications reflect her ongoing interest in the evolving role of higher education and its implications for students, institutions and academic staff. If you'd like to find out more, you can find the full list of publications down below and on her academic profile.
