University of Portsmouth London is proud to celebrate the achievement of Dr Maria Psyllou, Senior Lecturer in Economics, Finance, and Banking, who delivered a keynote address at the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) Economics Conference.

This prestigious three-day event brought together leading economists from the UK government and around the world to discuss key issues shaping national and global policies.

Dr. Psyllou’s keynote focused on the vital topic of diversity and inclusion (D&I) in economics, reflecting her deep commitment to promoting underrepresented voices within the profession. During her speech, she highlighted the impact of diverse perspectives on better decision-making and more effective policies. She showcased national initiatives like Discover Economics and the UK Women in Economics Network, which work to increase representation in the field.

Maria’s message to the conference was clear: embracing D&I not only fosters inclusivity but also enhances strategic decision-making in economics. She encouraged participants to champion diversity in their own teams and workplaces, sharing practical steps to create more inclusive environments.

"This opportunity allows me to share insights and experiences from my involvement with initiatives like Discover Economics and UK Women in Economics Network, aiming to inspire others to advocate for change".
