Last Friday 6 March, Stephanie, Senior UK Student Recruitment and Outreach Officer for UoP London, attended Walthamstow School for Girls’, located close to UoPL’s campus in Waltham Forest. She was one of 15 volunteers who supported the ‘What’s My Line’ activity, designed to inspire year 9 students during National Careers Week and to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Stephanie was joined by a variety of volunteers from a range of sectors and industries, including STEM, film, education, and the charity sector, as well as occupational therapy and neuroscience.
The outreach activity consisted of playing a yes/no game whereby students had 3 minutes to pose questions to each volunteer about their job, but volunteers could only answer with yes/no responses.
Students greatly enjoyed the activity and the guessing game- one noted: ‘The visitors were all really nice and fun to work with. It was great to see people to different industries.’
Activities such as these are a great way of showing the range of career pathways and jobs students could progress into. Each volunteer shared their career story at the end, their history highlighting to students the different choices and opportunities available to them.
Initiatives like these are important to celebrate women across industries. They’re a fun way to inspire the next generation of women, showcasing the power of women and what they can achieve.
UoP London is delighted to be involved in such initiatives with local schools, inspiring the next generation of leaders.
