The London campus welcomed Medical Doctor, Aesthetic Practitioner and content creator Sonum Samra to campus for an inspiring, student-led panel on non-linear career journeys.
The session formed part of the Digital Enterprise and Innovation module for final-year undergraduate Computer Science students.
Originally trained and practising medicine in the United States, Sonum made the bold decision to relocate to London to expand her professional path. Alongside her clinical work, she now builds community online, sharing educational content that empowers wider audiences.
The “Breaking the Mould” discussion encouraged students to rethink traditional ideas of success. Conversations explored identity formation, emotional intelligence and evolving self-worth, as well as the courage it takes to pivot.
Students led the session as both panellists and moderator, creating an open and relatable space for honest reflection. Together, they discussed resilience, self-leadership, strategic career decisions and building a personal brand alongside a professional identity.
Bilawal Khan, Course Leader for MBA and Senior Lecturer said,
It was great to have Sonum on campus to share her experiences. The panel discussion was student-led, with our students guiding a thoughtful conversation around career pivots, personal growth, and self-leadership. Sonum’s openness about her journey made the discussion both inspiring and highly relatable.
