Bridging Theory and Practice: Sana’s Internship Experience
Sana Zehra, an MSc Construction Project Management student at University of Portsmouth London, has secured an exciting internship with Synergy Interiors, a leading construction and fit-out company. Just weeks into the role, Sana has already gained valuable hands-on experience, applying her academic knowledge to real-world projects.
Sana has been involved in a range of live projects, working closely with consultants and attending site visits to see project execution firsthand. She’s also been learning from industry professionals about effective project management techniques and how to improve efficiency in construction.
One of the key learning experiences has been attending client meetings, where I’ve observed how professionals communicate project details, manage expectations, and address challenges in real time. These meetings have given me a deeper understanding of client relations and the importance of clear and precise communication in construction projects.
A standout part of her experience has been working with Procore, a leading project management platform widely used in the construction industry. Through Procore, Sana has gained a structured approach to managing documentation, tracking progress, and improving collaboration across teams.
Sana has also been introduced to MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) sets, deepening her technical understanding of building systems and the importance of coordination between different disciplines to avoid conflicts on-site.
Overall, this internship is providing me with invaluable industry exposure, technical knowledge, and practical skills that will significantly benefit my professional growth.
