A foundation year is a great way to start your university journey with extra support and preparation. It is designed for students who may not meet the entry requirements for direct entry, are returning to education after a break, or simply want more time to build their confidence before starting a degree.

During your foundation year, you will develop the academic skills, subject knowledge, and confidence you need for degree-level study. You will also get used to university-style learning through lectures, seminars, workshops, and assessments, helping you feel prepared and ready to progress onto a full Bachelor’s degree.

Foundation Year courses at the University of Portsmouth London Campus

At the University of Portsmouth London Campus, students can begin their journey with foundation year pathways in Business and Computing.

Once you successfully complete your foundation year, you can progress onto the first year of your chosen Bachelor’s degree. You will study towards the same degree qualification as students who entered directly, with the foundation year giving you an additional year to prepare, settle in, and feel ready for university-level study.
