Summary

As a Senior Lecturer in Academic Skills at the University of Portsmouth London, Amy leads the development and delivery of our academic skills provision, helping students enhance their learning strategies to succeed in higher education and beyond.

She leads modules in academic and professional skills at Levels 3 and 4, teaches skills through embedded workshops and support, and provides the opportunity for students at all levels and across all subject areas to receive one-to-one support. 

Her commitment to widening participation and inclusivity aligns with the University’s mission to provide life-changing educational experiences for all students. 

Biography

Amy has a background in English language teaching and linguistics and has held numerous roles within higher education. Before joining the University of Portsmouth, she worked in Digital Education for King’s Foundations, King’s College London, where she led the development of digital learning strategies and supported both staff and students in the use of educational technologies. She has also worked at Abertay University, where she had roles in Learning Technology, EAP, and Learner Development, and at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China, where she taught Applied Linguistics. 

Throughout her career, Amy has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing student success. She is an advocate for accessible and inclusive education and has recently been exploring the potential of generative AI to act in an assistive capacity, particularly for students who identify as disabled or neurodivergent. In her current role at the University of Portsmouth London, Amy continues to champion inclusive education and explore innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning experiences.
